The New Health Project Final Symposium in Utrecht, The Netherlands sets out a path to active healthy lifestyles
The New Health Project held its Final Symposium in Utrecht on Friday, 25 November as part of the Fitfair Jaarbeurs Event, a national event for fitness professionals and club owners from across the Netherlands.
The New Health Project, now in its third and final year, aims to provide sports- and lifestyle organizations, professionals, volunteers and consumers with easy to obtain and to understand knowledge and tools to improve physical activity, healthy eating, mental fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
After a fascinating introduction from Ronald Wouters, the CEO NL Actief on the state of the fitness sector in the Netherlands, with particular reference to the emerging role of lifestyle coaching, the focus turned to the New Health Project. Julian Berriman the EuropeActive Director of the EuropeActive Professional Standards Committee (PSC) introduced the Project and stressed its importance in supporting active healthy lifestyles. The role of a Healthy Lifestyle Promoter (HLP), developed during the project, was also described. The HLP promotes a healthy lifestyle through providing information and signposting to community activities that would support the physical, mental, emotional and social well-being of citizens across Europe.
John van Heel, the inspirational project lead for New Health spoke next. John’s passion and commitment to promoting health and wellbeing was obvious for all to see. He identified rising levels of overweight and obesity across Europe and the world and the projections for the health of future generations. The highly innovative and informative videos that had been produced (https://new-health.eu/en/videos) to support professionals, volunteers and consumers to promote healthy lifestyles were showcased to the audience as was a Lifestyle Scan (https://new-health.eu/en/do-the-lifestyle-scan). This Scan would help identify unhealthy behaviours and to track positive changes in those behaviours.
